Dolpo, Dho Tarap Festival
    September 11 - September 16
  The program

The Buddha Ribo Festival is celebrated every 12 years in Dho Tarap Valley of the remote Dolpo District of Nepal.

Pilgrims and visitors from neighbouring communities and districts come to participate and share their customs.

It is a wonderful opportunity for them to renew old friendships and bonds.

Youths get a chance to experience the rich tapestry which is their inherited culture and show off their performing skills to their elders and peers
Set amid the high Himalayas, "abode of the gods", Nepal has been called the land where deities mingle with mortals.

As one of the remotest corners of Nepal, Dolpo was, until recently, vertually unknown to the outside world. Only a few learned lamas understood the fascinating and complex culture, which has evolved over hundreds of years, with little external influence, from the Tibetan religions of Bon and Buddhism.

The release of Eric Valli's film, "Himalaya", which was made in Dolpo with a largely local cast and based on true experiences of local life, gave may people across the world the chance to learn something of this unique area, its spectacular environment and topography, tough and resourceful people and their religious philosophies and social customs.
We hope that this site will act as a further appetiser, so that viewers may gain a better understanding of the rich culture and natural features of Dolpo.

We are sure some of you will be moved to visit Dolpo for a trek of a lifetime.
